Energy Savings 
Just two hours drive to the north east of the Norwegian capital of Oslo is one of the largest and most popular of Norway’s adventure pools, known as Raufoss Badeland, which is very popular among children. Recently a Grander unit was installed in the access line to the pools, and four revitalisation cylinders were put in the filter and compensation tank.
The reason for the installation was to attempt to reduce the energy requirements, which account for a large proportion of the operating costs for the swimming pools. Technical manager Nina Sell says, ‘Pools generally have very high costs which are largely due to the power consumption. We can only improve our profitability by minimising operational costs and cutting power costs. For our basic requirements we have a fixed amount of power from the utility suppliers, but in peak periods when our requirements increase, we have to buy energy at very high prices from the free market. Since the installation of the Grander Technology our peak power requirements have fallen considerably, so we have saved considerably on our costs.’
‘In addition, as swimmers have also said that the water in the pools felt warmer, we were able to reduce the heating temperature, saving costs again. We are confident also that there has been a marked improvement in heat transfer. While we know that visitor frequency, peak periods, etc. have remained the same as in the comparison period in the previous years, use of power has fallen considerably.’ Grander Technology has solved one of the main problems with which the adventure pool complex had been confronted for many years.
Unsurprisingly too, only a few days after the installation, Nina Sell's assistant reported that the smell of chlorine in the pool was a lot less intense, whilst swimmers reported a pleasant feeling on the skin, and children no longer complained about red and sore eyes. These benefits were in addition to reducing the largest cost factor for pools, their energy requirement. Grander Technology helps cut these costs. |
