Avocado Grower in Southern Spain
Spain
Impressive results Señor Herrero runs a three hectare avocado plantation, plus a hotel with 15 rooms, in La Viñuela in the Spanish town of Velez-Malaga. A friend advised him to install Grander revitalisation units at both sites. “We water our avocado trees using over 2000 spray nozzles, which produce a fine mist. We had frequent problems with blockages caused by limescale, which required regular flushing of the system with a nitric acid solution and a labour-intensive manual cleaning of the nozzles to remove deposits."
We no longer do any maintenance work on the water system and we have stopped using nitric acid completely. Before installing Grander, we had a typical pattern of harvest yields. In one year, we would usually produce about 50 tons, and the next year, the trees would need to take a “rest” and the yield would drop to 25 tons. Next year the yield would go up to around 50 tons. The last 2 years using Grander revitalisation we produced more than 60 tons each year, which is totally unusual. Normally the avocados would be ready to harvest in March/April. This year the avocados have been ready to harvest already since December 2003. |
