The Leitl ‘Vital’ brick

Although the brick making business of the Leitl family in Eferding, Upper Austria, has been going for over 100 years, it is still one of the most modern in Europe.

Not only that, but the healing effect of clay used to make the bricks has been known to the Leitl family for generations. It is now being tested for therapeutic use as a mudpack in the Geinberg thermal spa, and in Dungls Bio Training Hotel in Gars am Kamp.

Using this ‘vital’, high quality clay, a special brick system for walls and ceilings has now been developed. This system takes its cue from nature, with its honeycomb-like hollow spaces, that provide a harmonious flow of heat, generating a well balanced and highly stable room climate.

‘Our motivation for installing Grander Technology at the brickworks was that we wanted to give the bricks a design which was as vital as possible and we considered everything to make a brick which would offer people the best possible results,’ explains Martin Leitl.

The Leitl research and development team worked according to the motto, ‘Only the best is good enough for the Leitl Vital brick’, and looked closely at the properties of water to achieve this.

At the start of the production process, clay is mixed with water so that it becomes malleable and easy to shape. When Grander Technology water was used, it was clear that the clay/water mixture was much more malleable and more uniform in texture, due to the lower surface tension of the revitalised water.

Even when the brick was dried and fired, the positive effect of the revitalized water wasn’t lost. The energy in the water and the clay combined, and it was transferred to the mixed and moulded final product. The water transmitted its energy to the clay where it remained after the brick was fired.

‘We have taken measurements from the bricks that show there is a positive radiation of energy. We have also heard back from people who live in the houses made with Vital bricks, who say that the room climate feels more harmonious,’ confirms a happy Leitl.
