World market leader uses Grander Technology

Limescale in the pipes, increased algae and bacteria growth in the compensation tanks, cooling water contaminated by corrosion – these were the factors which were having a negative effect on plastic processing in the production of composites for skis at Isosport in Eisenstadt. In addition, the machinery cooling system was not working effectively. When temperatures were too high, the plastic used for the manufacture of skis and snowboards began to bend and eventually became unusable. With plastic production in particular, heat transfer must be kept at stable levels at all times, otherwise high reject rates translate into financial loss.

To prevent further risk to production, chemicals and biocides had to be used to clean the water – which gave rise to concern about the draining of the cooling water into the public sewers. One and a half years after the installation of the Grander system, the quality of the cooling water improved and the cooling performance increased, product quality was enhanced and complaints fell.

‘We now have a very good and constant cooling water quality,’ reports system manager Günter Jurassovits. ‘This means that the machinery for the cooling of our products also works with much less downtime. We can now dispense with the use of chemical products, which is better for the environment – and our budget.’

On-going analyses show a significantly higher water quality. The lime scale deposits are now so small that they can be rinsed off with high-pressure water jets and no longer have to be removed mechanically.
