Guesthouse and restaurant Spitzwirt
(Austria)

It began with a pendant

Gudrun and Ernst Kohnhauser own the Gasthof Restaurant Spitzwirt in Liebkoch in Styria, which has one ‘Chef's hat’, or star for excellence. Hectic working hours, the high pressure of work and never-ending lack of sleep led Ernst Kohnhauser to try wearing a Grander pendant. His guests soon noticed that the one-star chef was a lot calmer and more relaxed. He describes the effect of wearing the pendant. ‘My life has changed completely. I can cope with stress more easily and my energy levels have increased. Whenever my guests ask why I am more relaxed, I show them my Grander pendant.’

He later installed a Grander water revitalisation system, for the central water supply of the guesthouse. After installation, the heat transfer of the heating system improved because the water got hotter faster. Apart from financial and environmental costs saved as the heating was turned down, the hotel also uses only half its previous volume of detergent to wash the 250 kilos of tablecloths and bedclothes a day.

Even the bar benefited from the conversion, because now the beer nozzles stay clean and unclogged.

However, it is the hotel gardener who is the most enthusiastic. The hotel has 36 boxes of geraniums as decoration and they usually require a lot of fertiliser for peak flowering. The gardener no longer has to add fertiliser, the water has improved growth so much, and the pond, which contains 100,000 litres of water, is now free of all algae for the third year running – in contrast to the six to eight buckets of algae that were previously being removed on a weekly basis.
