Air conditioning system
Casino Velden (Austria)

Revitalized air condition

Constant problems with the air-conditioning made the casino manager, Othmar Resch, take some unorthodox measures. What happened previously, despite the massive use of chemicals, was that the germ-propagation rate in the air-conditioning water could not be controlled. This resulted in the formation of algae and a disgusting odour. Apart from this, people complained of irritations and inflammation of the eyes.
In the spring of 1997, Mr Resch installed a water revitalising device. The objective: to improve the air quality for visitors and staff. Another aim was to restore a microbiological equilibrium in order to keep the quantity of chemicals used as low as possible. At the first inspection, the water collecting trough was covered by 3 to 4 cm of froth, giving off a sharp and foul stench. Any physical contact caused a strong and long-lasting itchiness.
About one year after the installation of the Grander Technology new water samples were taken and the water quality had clearly improved. It was no longer necessary to add chemicals to control microbial growth. At the same time the “Public Health Laboratory Graz” measured and analysed the air germ count. Their work confirmed that the air quality in the casino was very good: “The airborne germ concentrations of all samples taken were at the lower end of the permitted range.” All of the casino staff confirmed that the air quality had noticeably improved. The unpleasant odour in the gambling-machine hall, which was particularly strong in summer, had vanished. Croupier Michael Tschikoff says, “Over many years I had red and burning eyes when I was at work. Since the improvement in the air-conditioning these symptoms have gone. As far as my eyes are concerned, I’ve no more complaints.”
